The scariest semester that ever was
OK, maybe not. But taking web design does make me freak out just a touch. FTP clients, DNS…just when I thought I couldn’t hate acronyms anymore. However, I’m also taking collection development and metadata, both of which amount to all sorts of nerd-tastic fun. Also, this term is special for another reason: it’s my second to last one! Nowhere near as fun as the last term,...

Giving and taking
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how I use social media vs my contributions to that medium. After looking at my spotty (at best) Tweets and glancing at this here (oft-neglected) blog, I couldn’t help but wonder if there’s a backlash against social media users who take much more than they give. As a sort of defense, I find myself getting much more quiet lately, turning my...
So, I'm Daisy, right?
There’s a miniature golf place opening up across the street from my apartment. This would not normally be news, but there’s a tiny lighthouse stationed near the window of this place, with a fully functioning blinking light on top. My boyfriend said that he feels like Jay Gatsby, finally. Because every other aspect of our lives is straight out of the roaring twenties!

Thanks, U.S. style
It’s Thanksgiving in the U.S. today (SHOCKER), so I’d be remiss if I didn’t write a token “thankful” post. The Internet needs to know how thankful I am!
I’m utterly thankful for:
-a loving man to call my own.
-a family that supports me, loves me, and cares for me even though I’m thousands of miles away.
-thoughtful friends, near and far.
-the...

I should be sick all the time
Whenever I have even a hint of a cold, I suddenly become the healthiest version of myself. Approximately 75% of the time, I can be counted on to eat and drink things that are relatively healthy for me, with the remaining 25% going toward eating Juanitas tortilla chips all day, every day, and drinking cheap wine. When I get the sniffles though, all I can think about when I look at food is...
Albright Fashion Library
Your closet ain’t got nothing on this one: http://www.refinery29.com/inside-albright-fashion-library-in-nyc
7,000 pairs of shoes, arranged by Pantone colors. That’s also the same number of square feet the closet has. So, how did this library happen? Irene and Marina Albright basically just started collecting clothes back in the ’80s and haven’t stopped since, buying 1,2000...

Guest postin' at Hack Library School
Every notice how anxiety and library school go hand-in-hand? Head over to the amazing Hack Library School and check out my guest post on how to handle mini/major nervous breakdowns while in graduate school. Huge thanks to the HLS editors for this opportunity!

And yes, another theme change! This one will probably stick. I changed my theme because a friend asked a thoughtful question about what had gone into my decision to not have comments enabled on my blog. My equally-thoughtful response went something like “Uhhh…I haz no comments?” So, I switched to a theme that supported Disqus, swore for about an hour because they were not...
Information customization gone too far? →
I originally found this article (click the post title for the scoop) via Jezebel, as I’m not known to read UK newspapers in my spare time. I’m still trying to figure out what exactly this means, because I feel like the article takes an odd tone with it. I can imagine the Council in charge of distributing this questionnaire (that is optional to fill out) thinks it’s doing a good...

I return!
I’m missing the midwest (and my family) like whoa, but I came back with some renewed energy and conviction that I would not be a parent for at least 10 more years. My nephew is an absolute charmer, but he knows how to exhaust a girl, even when she’s barely doing anything other than trying to keep up with his adorable jog.
No time for toddlers though, as I’ve started my fall...
There's Internet where I'm going, but still.
VACAY TIME! I’m fairly insufferable when I get close to taking any kind of time off, because all I want to do is yell about VACAY. I’m heading back home for a few days to spend some much-needed time with my fam-fam (family, for those of you who aren’t on the VACAY train), so I’ll probably be pretty quiet in my little corner of the Internet. Until then, sincere thanks to...
fggtlibrarian asked: Hi there! I read your last post on being unsure about Library school/a career in librarianship, and I wanted to send you a note to say that your concerns or self-doubt are normal! Don't let your peers make you feel like you should compromise your personal interests to read LIS literature instead :P Librarians don't always know everything, or care about everything in the LIS world. I love...
Unsure
Perhaps it’s ironic that right after I post about a completed school assignment, I have a “GUYS, I CAN’T DO THIS” post, but so it goes. I have never been less sure of pursuing my MLS as I have been in the past few months. My insecurity stems from a lot of this—at 23 years old, enrolling in graduate school was basically the first adult decision that I had made. No one...

Tutorial: VANQUISHED (or, what I did in library...
Well, it’s not vanquished, because it’s still here. But I totally got it done, and that’s what matters. For my Information Technology class, I had to create a simple, web-based tutorial on how to use a Web 2.0 tool and tailor it for a specific user group. I chose LibraryThing, and tailored it to school librarians.
It was my first attempt at any sort of “web design”...
Deep thoughts
1) How angry do you think that Brittany Gastineau is that her and her mom’s 2005 E! show The Gastineau Girls never took off, but Keeping up With the Kardashians is basically on its tenth season?
2) Does the success of Keeping up With the Kardashians lie in Bruce Jenner? Think about it: it’s the only thing The Gastineau Girls didn’t have. Besides the sheer numbers in the...
On Dorothy Parker and research anxiety
I haven’t been blogging much about school, because I find that the stress hives on my fingers make it oh-so-painful to type. I’m kidding, but only slightly. I’m a week away from turning in a substantial research paper/accompanying poster, and since I was “awesome” and finished the paper early, I’ve given myself plenty of time to second guess things and generally...
